COMMON STARTING POINT

“I know this record is holding me back. I just need to know whether there is a realistic path to clear it, what it costs, and what I have to file next.”

THE GAP WE FILL

Most people cannot tell which record-clearing path applies or what to file next.

Court forms, state rules, filing fees, waiting periods, and background-check cleanup all live in different places. Clean My Past pulls those steps into one guided workflow for the 8 launch states.

The software is built for straightforward, self-represented cases: screen eligibility, prepare supported documents, track filing tasks, and help clean up stale private background-check reports after official relief.

How we're different
HOW IT WORKS

Three steps. Roughly 8 weeks.

We orchestrate the paperwork and deadlines. You handle the moments that have to be yours.

01

Check if you qualify

Answer a few questions about your case. Our software maps your answers to your state's expungement statute and shows whether you may qualify, what relief you may be eligible for, and what the timeline looks like. Free. About 8 minutes. No card required.

02

Get your filing package

If you qualify, we generate the right court forms — pre-filled with your information, customized for your county, with statute citations in the footer. You sign electronically; we provide step-by-step filing instructions for your county's court.

03

File and clean your background

You file the documents yourself; we track every deadline. After your court order arrives, we walk you through removing the old record from private background-check companies. We never file on your behalf — which is what keeps us legally compliant and gives you control.

Each state has its own statute, its own forms, its own filing process. We've encoded all of it. Your eligibility check is specific to your state's law — Tex. Code Crim. Proc. Ch. 55A in Texas, Clean Slate Act 36 of 2023 in Pennsylvania, A.R.S. §13-905 in Arizona, and so on.

USE CASES

Built for the record-clearing paths people actually search for.

Dismissed charges, no-bills, acquittals, deferred adjudication, nondisclosure, and DWI sealing each follow different Texas rules. The software separates those paths before document generation.

WHO WE'RE NOT

We're software. Not a law firm.

WHAT WE DO
  • Help you understand if you may qualify under your state's law
  • Generate court-ready documents pre-filled with your information
  • Walk you through filing, step by step
  • Track every deadline so nothing slips
  • Help you dispute outdated background-check records
  • Refer you to a licensed attorney if your case is unusual
WHAT WE DON'T
  • Give legal advice about your specific case
  • File documents in court for you
  • Represent you in any court proceeding
  • Communicate with prosecutors or judges on your behalf
  • Promise specific outcomes or guarantee results
  • Substitute for a lawyer when one is needed

This isn't legal nuance — it's the literal definition of what we are. Software preparing documents for a self-represented person is legal in every state we operate in. A non-attorney filing those documents on your behalf would not be. Our entire product is built around staying clearly on the right side of that line.

QUESTIONS

What people ask before signing up.

No. Clean My Past is software. We do not provide legal advice. If you need legal advice, please consult a licensed attorney in your state. We can refer you to legal aid organizations if your case is too complex for software.

An attorney can give you legal advice tailored to your specific case, represent you in court, and handle complex situations. Clean My Past is for people whose cases are straightforward enough to navigate with a guided software process — at a fraction of attorney cost. We refer complex cases to legal aid or attorneys.

We're starting with Texas, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, and Washington. We're expanding to additional states in late 2026. You can sign up to be notified when your state launches.

Whether your record gets cleared depends on factors outside our control, including courts, agencies, prosecutors, and consumer reporting agencies. Clean My Past helps prepare supported paperwork, organize filing steps, and track deadlines, but it cannot guarantee outcomes.

If our software determines you may not qualify under your state's current law, we'll tell you. Sometimes the right next step is waiting until a waiting period passes; sometimes it's seeking a pardon; sometimes it's getting an attorney for a complex situation. We'll point you to the right path for your specific case.

Two reasons: (1) it's legally required for a non-attorney service like ours, and (2) it gives you control. We make filing as simple as possible — pre-filled forms, step-by-step instructions for your county, certified-mail support, deadline tracking — but the final act of filing is yours.

Screening can be completed quickly, but official record pulls, court review, agency processing, and background-check disputes vary by state and county. Many court workflows take weeks or months, and FCRA cleanup can add another reporting-agency response window.

Our software costs $99–349 depending on your state for the one-time petition package, and $19–29/month for ongoing background-check cleanup. Court filing fees are separate (typically $0–$398 depending on state and county) and paid directly to the court. We don't mark up government fees.

We treat your data as confidential. We never sell your information, never share it with employers or law enforcement except as legally required, and never use your case data to train AI models. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Yes, often. Dismissed cases still appear on background checks until your state has affirmatively sealed them, and even after sealing, private background-check companies may still report old records. Our FCRA cleanup product handles exactly this situation — we generate the dispute letters that get those companies to update their records.

Yes. Information you share with Clean My Past is encrypted in transit and at rest, retained only as long as needed to provide the service, and never shared with third parties except as required to operate the platform (e.g., Stripe for payments, DocuSign for e-signatures). See our Privacy Policy.

If our software encounters an unusual case configuration, we flag it for attorney review and refer you to legal aid or an attorney rather than push you forward with a process we don't fully fit. Better to refer you out than to give you a wrong answer.
